In Peter's sermon on Pentecost, he quoted a prophecy in Joel which not only said the Spirit would be poured out, but also that the sun would become dark and the moon would turn to blood before the day of the Lord. Peter claimed that this prophecy had been fulfilled in his day and time.

The purported Letter from Pontius Pilate to Tiberius claimed darkness had started at the sixth hour of the day of crucifixion, covered the whole world and, during the subsequent evening, the full moon resembled blood for the entire night.
Several writers (like Justin Martyr) refer to this letter by Pilate for the emperor to examine and see matters concerning Christ. AND when a CLOUD of darkness descends on a city, any moon seen is usually RED.
An earthquake also took place on the self same day.
Peter shows the people in AD 31 that this prophecy of Joel confirms Jesus is the Messiah and that He has poured out the Holy Spirit upon them.
