June 20, 2011 the European Sunday Alliance formed in Brussels.

The Alliance is a netweork of national Sunday alliances, trade unions, civil society organizations and religious communities.

Under the mission of promoting fair and balanced work conditions that do not interfer with a balanced lifestyle that offers time for family and social cohesion,  the alliance requests for Sundays to be work free.

The new working guidelines (2003/88/EG) to be negotiated by EU members.

"A “Work-Free Sunday” and the need of legislation to enforce the concept was the topic of a conference held this week in Brussels, Belgium.  Last year the European Parliament rejected such an attempt.  This conference comes as a response.  It is but the beginning of a more strategic movement to revitalize the discussion for a work-free Sunday. ...

"There is now a serious attempt to convince the hearts and minds of Europeans that Sunday legislation is necessary for the health of all citizens....

“This is a disturbing movement.  Now is the time for us as a people to share with others the importance of maintaining religious freedom for all citizens.”
...

"we believe the individual should be permitted to choose which days to rest on - not the state in cooperation with churches. We view this movement as a serious threat to religious freedom."

The ground work is being done.
But will the EU pass the legislation this time around?   This isn't the first time a work-free Sunday has been presented for legislature.  It was defeated last time.  Will it go through this time?

"America will lead the way in Sunday enforcement"

As the work of Sabbath reform extends, this rejection of the divine law to avoid the claims of the fourth commandment will become well-nigh universal....
Yet this very class put forth the claim that the fast-spreading corruption is largely attributable to the desecration of the so-called "Christian Sabbath," and that the enforcement of Sunday observance would greatly improve the morals of society. This claim is especially urged in America, where the doctrine of the true Sabbath has been most widely preached.
The United States is the power represented by the beast with lamblike horns, and . . . this prophecy will be fulfilled when the United States shall enforce Sunday observance, which Rome claims as the special acknowledgment of her supremacy. But in this homage to Papacy the United States will not be alone. The influence of Rome in the countries that once acknowledged her dominion, is still far from being destroyed.

But the ten horns will give their power as well.

America has been the bastion of religious liberty for more than two centuries
now. Back in the 1800's Americans knew the papacy was only awaiting the
opportunity to effect the destruction of American institutions and reassert her
control over the conscience of men and women, and Americans resisted it!

America grew strong and powerful as the defender of religious freedom, and much of
the world, (especially the western nations) followed her example.

So now, America still stands as the bastion of religious liberty. As long as
America is a staunch "religious liberty, anti Sunday law" nation, Europe will
hesitate to pass such legislation. But America's defenses have been broken
down, the papal armies have taken their positions within her walls.

As far back as Pope Pius XI it has been said, "For him (the pope) our country
(America) is a battlefield on which is being waged the greatest struggle of the
Church's history. The conquest of America is the supreme objective at which he
aims." ("Rome stoops to Conquer" p.3)

When America capitulates to Rome's agenda, thereby openly revoking her
constitution (that constitution is already riddled with a million holes) then
Papal Rome has won the battle.

Then the European countries will readily fall into line, their laws already written, just waiting to be passed.  When the world's bastian for religious liberty falls to the papal agenda; the European nations will readily give their support to the papacy.

Europe's churches, from what I understand are basically empty.

"Every major religion except Islam is declining in Western Europe, according to the Center for the Study on Global Christianity at the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass. The drop is most evident in France, Sweden and the Netherlands, where church attendance is less than 10% in some areas." (reported Noelle Knox in US Today)

Europe is very secular --  but it's surprising how Catholism can still grow in a secular, uninterested in church, society.

Watched one of Veith's videos where he went to Germany and wanted to see the castle where Luther stayed while translating the Bible.   The whole tour of the castle was a grand veneration to a Saint Elizabeth.  One tourist got upset -- why all this Elizabeth stuff, we want to see where Luther lived, he demanded!  Veith was glad someone spoke up!  Finally, after much persuasion, they were taken to some small rooms that were out of the regular tourist route, and saw where Luther had resided.  But the Reformation history is being replaced by pagentry.

Veith also did a street survey by another reformation site, asking local passerbys what the monuments stood for -- not one knew the history!

So what force is it that pushes this Sunday legislation.

WHY SUNDAY?

Are you asking me?
I think you know.

If the only religion on a rise in Europe is the Moslem religion and all the Christian churches are pretty much empty -- won't it be more realistic to legislate FRIDAY as the day to release everyone from work?

By the way -- the Moslems would like permission to use the empty Christian churches as places for their religious gatherings.

And I know the Jews have protested against Sunday as well, as they rest upon the Seventh-day Sabbath.

Now suppose one would rise in the halls of a state legislature, and gravely propose a bill compelling labour  to cease on each Wednesday, under a penalty of a fine. An outcry would be raised at once that this would amount to an unwarranted interference in the rights of each person who ought not to be restrained from labouring when he pleases? And still we are gravely told that a compulsory labour free Sunday should be enforced by law?

You know it's always SUNDAY.

Always.

It is easily discoverable that no one would enforce the keeping of the first day of the week, unless he thought it possessed of religious sanctity, and a very influential and highly regarded man in a white robe was pushing for it.

People laugh when we say America will enforce a Sunday law.  America is moving further and further away from Sunday laws, they say.

And yet, when we look at Europe, which is a very secularized society, with few ever setting a foot in church, it is amazing that they are pushing for Sunday laws.

Ruth wrote: "You know it's always SUNDAY."

Hmmm....

"The change from Sabbath to Sunday is the churches mark of authority in ecclesiastical matters of faith and worship." -  H.F. Thomas, Chancellor to Cardinal Gibbons.

There are dozens of quotes in Catholic literature where she claims the change shows her power over God's word.

God says "Remember the seventh day to keep it holy, on it you shall do NO work, for in six days God created...and rested the seventh." --
Church says, No, you can do all manner of work on the Seventh day, but keep the first day work free and make it your special worship day.

And practically all of Christiandom says, "we will follow the church, not the Creator.  We have tradition to follow."

Have you ever noticed that even those who say "all days are alike" will by default choose Sunday?

To gain support for Sunday legislation, the alliances don't even have to push for religious reasons, if people are just brought to a point of indifference as to which day is God's day for rest, but that they need A day, then the papal Sunday will win.

I agree with the "default" principle, it will bring in the people who really don't care, however I don't think the Sunday laws will be passed simply on that principle.

You wrote earlier, "that no one would enforce the keeping of the first day of the week, unless he thought it possessed of religious sanctity", and I think you hit the nail on the head there.

And that also brings us back to one of the first questions -- about America leading the way when right now it seems America is not interested in Sunday legislature.  How?  Well Christians in America would like to see Sunday respected, they would like society to slow down.   Remember 2004 when Virginia botched up their attempt to erase the blue laws and ended up actually enforcing some parts of it.  Of course action was taken quickly to correct the mistake, but what was interesting were all the articles that appeared in the various newspapers lamenting the departed Sunday laws.

  • Elpasotimes.com NEWS, Aug. 1,2004

  • The "Indiana Times", July 18, states"

  • The "Seattle Times", July 18, asks:

  • The "Washington Times", July 13, writes:

  • CBS47 Jacksonville, Aug. 9, notes:

  • The Daily Tribune News, Aug. 11, 2004
A letter to the editor asks about

  • The August 2, 2004 "TIME" Magazine, had an article by Nancy Gibbs,

So we see, the desire for Sunday "to be protected" is still alive in America.

We also know that catastrophies seem to rouse Americans from their secular persuits and sends them to church.   After 9/11 the churches saw a real crowd for a few weeks!

What will happen to cause America to lead the way?
Probably some major catastrophy or rather series of catastrophies-- that will be heralded as God's punishment, and people will flock to the churches in droves and demand the state enforce Sunday to bring the country back into God's graces and stop the troubles.

Catastrophies --

You mean like the 2012 "predictions?"  The sun spots shooting out "fireballs" and affecting the electro/magnetic fields on earth to the extent that the electric grid is fried and the whole states are left without electricity -- which in turn would mean no means to heat the home, cook one's food, or even pump water to the house.

Transportation would run out of gas and cease to transport food etc. etc. etc.

Anything like that could very well result in a complete change in lifestyle and values.

I don't know how much stock we can put into the 2012 predictions.  I remember the 2YK predictions that scared plenty of people, but they didn't happen.

However, yes, anything major disruption to the comfortable life,  would frighten the people into thinking enforcing Sunday would bring God's blessings -- but Sunday isn't God's holy day that He asked people to remember,  so how would forcing people to keep Sunday while yet  trampling on His day, bring God's blessing.
